The cherimoya fruit is also known as Annona cherimola. This fruit is green and heart-shaped. Its taste inside is sweet and the fruit itself is fragrant. It is said to have a flavor almost like Custard apple but better. Cherimoya is related to pawpaws and sugar apples. This fruit is rich in innumerable nutrients. Eating fresh cherimoya as a dessert is a great idea, or you can make them into smoothies or ice cream.

Cherimoya fruit is native to Ecuador’s valleys but is now widely cultivated in Spain and the Mediterranean region. It shares a similar appearance with the Custard apple but the differences are it possesses the shape of a heart and has a light green peel. The flesh inside is opaque white like milk, it is creamy and contains a lot of water. In cherimoya fruit, there are many black seeds which are inedible.

Cherimoya fruit is preferable not just because it is tasty, but also because it contains many nutrients. The flesh of a medium-sized cherimoya fruit contains a lot quantity of nutrition components: 231 calories, carbohydrates, protein, fat, fiber, vitamin C, vitamin B6, potassium, manganese, thiamine, riboflavin, and folate, milligrams, magnesium, copper, niacin, phosphorus, pantothenic acid, cassava, etc.

These nutrients in cherimoya positively impact our health, including:

Preventing cancer

Cherimoya contains many antioxidants, including flavonoids, carotenoids, vitamin C, and kynurenic acid, all of which are present in high concentrations. Antioxidants help the body fight free radicals that lead to cancer by reducing oxidative stress.

Generally, fruits rich in antioxidants are good for reducing the risk of cancer as well.

Cherimoya fruit provides the body with the necessary amount of soluble fiber, so it can help with digestive issues. One of the benefits of fiber for the digestive system is that it aids in fermentation and increases the number of good bacteria.

Furthermore, fiber is also known for its weight loss effects, which can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, colon cancer, and more.

Boosting the immune system

Cherimoya fruit provides plenty of vitamin C, a nutrient that enhances immune system function.  Each cherimoya contains about 60% of the vitamin C needed for the body daily.

Consuming enough vitamin C helps to prevent illness and infection in the body.  Several studies have shown that the anti-inflammatory properties in cherimoya fruit, known as kaurenoic acid, improve symptoms of colitis.

Carotenoids and flavonoids also support immunity and increase resistance.

Lutein in cherimoya helps to promote eye health. Age-related macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness and vision impairment, can be prevented through its anti-inflammatory properties.

Additionally, it helps fight eye strain, reduces sensitivity to light, and strengthens eye tissue to make vision sharper.

Supporting brain function

Vitamin B6 in cherimoya helps maintain the health of the nervous and vascular system, improves hypertension and sleep patterns and protects the brain’s health.

Vitamin B6 helps your brain function effectively, boosts memory and improves your ability to focus, etc. It also boosts your daily mood.

Preventing of cardiovascular disease

Moreover, antioxidants contained in cherimoya such as carotenoid pigments, kali, magnesium, and fiber help decrease blood pressure in people who suffer from hypertension, reduce the risk of rupture of the circuit, and reduce the agents that cause strokes.

First look at their skins, peel of the fresh cherimoya will be light green, and it does not have brown spots or scratches.
The next step is to press lightly on the fruit, if it is still hard, the fruit is not ripe. If you buy these, you should keep them at room temperature for a few days. When the fruit is fully ripe, it will give you a moderately soft feeling when pressed on, meaning that it can be eaten.
